Gok Wan and Newcastle's Miss Rory team up to host Northern Pride

There could be some competition in the style stakes at the virtual Northern Pride festival this year as it is revealed that TV fashion guru Gok Wan and Newcastle comedy favourite Miss Rory are to be the online hosts.

The pair will head up the programme of the LGBTQ+ event when it returns this summer for a second time in virtual format due to the pandemic.

Earlier this month it was announced that Northern Pride - said to be the UK’s biggest free festival of its kind - would be back in Newcastle in its usual form in 2022.

This year's online version of the event, being called Northern Pride Online 2.1, will take place this July 24 and will mark a return for TV presenter Gok who supported last year's virtual festival by hosting a DJ set.

A familiar face to TV viewers thanks to the likes of How to Look Good Naked, followed by other shows and documentaries both in the UK and abroad, Gok is also a successful DJ as well as an author of cookbooks and an ambassador for national LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall.

Miss Rory is a huge draw at Boulevard club in Newcastle and Ste Dunn, director of Northern Pride, said of the line-up: “We are absolutely delighted to have Gok joining Miss Rory to co-host the event this year and I think they’ll make an incredible team.

“While we won’t be able to celebrate Pride weekend in person this year, we have huge plans for Northern Pride Online 2.1, which everyone will be able to enjoy for free and from the safety of their own homes."
