'Going to be emotional' - Liverpool fans react to tier announcement ahead of Anfield return

Liverpool fans have been reacting following the news that fans will be allowed to return to Anfield next month.

That is because the entire Liverpool City Region has avoided the harshest level of new government restrictions and will be placed into the new Tier 2 next week.

As a result of being under Tier 2 regulations, a maximum of 2,000 fans will be allowed to attend elite sporting events from Wednesday December 2.

That means Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Wolves at Anfield on December 5, can have fans in attendance.

It will be the Reds’ first home game with supporters since March when they hosted Atletico Madrid in a Champions League round of 16 tie.

And even though it is only a small percentage of what Liverpool are used to getting for a home game, fans are pleased to see the return of spectators into matches.

In a statement released earlier this week, Liverpool confirmed they were working with their city partners in order to establish the most up-to-date health guidance and the most effective process for the safe return of supporters.

“Liverpool Football Club welcomes the government's announcement regarding the proposed return of fans into sports stadia. We have greatly missed our supporters at Anfield and we look forward to welcoming them back when it is safe to do so,” a statement from the club read.

“We will continue to work with our city partners, including Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police and Spirit of Shankly, in order to establish the most up-to-date health guidance and the most effective process for the safe return of supporters.

“While we await confirmation of which tier the city of Liverpool will be placed in, we continue to work through our plans and will make further announcements in due course.”
