Going green: MP’s first intercity e-bus to connect Bhopal-Indore next month

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh is likely to have its first inter-city electric bus service on the Indore- Bhopal route next month. ‘NueGo’, the inter-city AC electric bus service from GreenCell Mobility, has received a permit from the State transport department to operate on the Indore-Bhopal route.

Deputy transport commissioner (Bhopal division), AK Singh said, “Permit has been given to GreenCell Mobility to operate electric buses on Bhopal-Indore route.”

GreenCell stated that road trials of its all-electric vehicles will be the first inter-city electric coach in the state. These buses would be completing 1 lakh kms of road trails before they open for passengers.

Officials said that 4 buses are being used to ply between the Bhopal-Indore route during the testing period. The strength of buses will be increased with the launch of the services.

Officials said that the services will be launched in early June on the Indore-Bhopal route. The company plans to complete 1 lakh kms of road through the month leading upto the launch of the services.

The electric buses can run 250 kilometers in a single charge with the air conditioners on in traffic conditions. In Indore, the buses would be taking the route through Teen Imli Square, Navlakha bus stand, Sarwate bus stand, Pipliyahan World Cup statue and Star square while in Bhopal the route will be along ISBT Habibganj, Lal Ghati.

MD & CEO, GreenCell Mobility Ashok Agarwal, said, “We are excited to operate electric buses on Indore-Bhopal routes. Our buses are on-road trials before the launch of operations to ensure customer comfort and safety.”

Notably, NueGo has announced its plans for the roll-out of 750 premium AC e-buses across key intercity routes in Southern, Northern & Western India covering transit routes with coverage in over 75 cities. The company will have 100 electric buses transiting through various cities in Madhya Pradesh.

The gross CO2 emission avoided over the lifetime of these buses would be 56,154 tons.
