
A horse and rider gallop on Karasuzaki beach in Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture, early Thursday morning, ahead of the 1,000-year-old Soma Nomaoi equestrian festival on July 28-30. The event is said to have originated as a military drill for catching horses and is designated as a national important intangible folk cultural asset. Riders wear samurai costumes during the festival.
