Gogglebox viewers gobsmacked as they spot Giles' filthy armchair

Gogglebox favourite Giles Killen showed off his secret piano playing skills on last night's show - and his grubby armchair.

Fans are used to seeing the mild mannered telly watcher perched in his comfy chair alongside wife Mary, but last night they got a glimpse of what lies beneath when he popped away to tinkle the ivories.

Many shared their shock at the rotten seat cover and arm rests on Twitter, calling for the chair to be given a good scrub, or "condemned to the fire".

One wrote: "The absolute state of Giles’ armchair when he was out of shot playing the piano. How can people live in such a hovel?"

Another worried that it might be the epicentre of a future plague.

They tweeted: "Genuinely concerned that the next global pandemic might be started by Giles' armchair."

Giles wasn't only in hot water with fans of the fun Friday night show, but also found himself getting told off by his pattern-loving wife for unkindly comparing ailing Prince Philip, 99, to a reptile.

Mary was less than impressed when he quipped that the Duke "looks reptilian" in footage of him being driven home to Windsor Castle after a month in hospital for heart problems.

When Giles stood up, his seat was revealed to have patches caked in grease and grime (C4)

He added: “Let’s just hope he doesn’t choke on a lozenge.”

“Oh stop being nasty!” Mary snapped as Giles protested. “Why would he even have a lozenge?”

Giles hit back: “You know when you get to old age nutty, there is all sorts of hazards.”

The exchange seemed to help some viewers forget the unsanitary conditions of his seating situation, with one predicting, "One of these days Giles is going to wrap one of those cushions round Mary’s head! Moaning old boot!!"
