Gogglebox viewers demand subtitles for Scottish family as they 'can't understand them'

Gogglebox viewers demanded subtitles for the first Scottish people to appear on the show in six years.

Roisin and Joe made their debut on the hit Channel 4 programme last night as families across the country gave their opinions on the most popular TV shows of the moment.

The Glasgow-based pair provided their view on the likes of Love is Blind, Teen First Dates and Sunday Morning, among a whole host of others.

And while this was a triumphant moment for those demanding more Scottish representation on the programme, it appears that some viewers had a problem picking up what the couple were saying.

One person wrote on social media: “Can we have subtitles for the Scots on Gogglebox please?”

Another added: “Had to switch on my subtitles when the new Scottish couple spoke.”

A third asked: “Sorry, but can we have subtitles on Gogglebox for the new couple.”

Amid the pleas for subtitles, a number of Scots loved seeing Roisin and Joe on the telly last night.

One wrote: “Well done Gogglebox for putting pure Scottish on and giving them no subtitles - they way it should be.”

Another said: “Enjoying the authentic Scottish folk on Gogglebox, you can tell by the liberal yet skilful use of profanities.”

Roisin and Joe’s appearance on the show came after many Scots complained about the lack of Scottish voices on the programme.

The issue was even raised in the House of Commons, when SNP MP Pete Wishart expressed his concerns during a Scottish Affairs Committee session.

Channel 4 later launched a dedicated casting team to find Scottish contestants following the backlash.

The 23 and 25-year-old will appear regularly alongside the usual line-up of Gogglebox stars when it airs every Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
