Gogglebox vicar Kate Bottley weighs-in on 'ginnel' or 'alley' debate

Are you even from Nottingham if you haven't scoffed at the thought of calling the cut-through to your nan's house an 'alley'?

A 'ginnel', a 'jitty', a 'twitten' or a 'snicket'? It's the question which unites Great Britain in disagreement and the lively debate is once again doing the rounds on Twitter thanks to a post from @geocon1713 on Sunday (April 5) .

Nearly 19,500 people have now given their two cents on the matter, including Nottinghamshire's own celebrity vicar Kate Bottley.

Retweeting the post, which asks - 'Twitter! What do you call this?' - along with a picture of said controversial pathway, the Gogglebox star weighed-in with her own thoughts, including a bit of a left-field contender.

"[It's a] 'jennel', unless it’s covered and leads to the shared yard behind the houses and then it’s an ‘entry’", the BBC Radio 2 presenter offered.

An 'entry'? Well, we never.

Kate's own retweet resulted in a further 400 comments, including a bit of banter with TV favourite Richard Osman.

After the Pointless games master said he'd call it a 'twitten', cheeky Kate, who is part of the Retford Area Team Ministry, replied: "I thought you’d call it ‘the gardener’s and under butler’s access’.

Just goes to show while lockdown may have stopped some of the country's favourite past-times, such as the pub, footy, or travelling to the seaside as soon as there is a glimmer of spring sunshine, the Great British tradition of a lively but pointless debate is alive and well.

Now, just to decide if it's a cob or a roll...
