Gogglebox to go sofa-surfing in Seoul as South Korea version lined up

What’s South Korean for sofa? Because “작정하고 본방사수”, pronounced “Jakjunghago Bonbangsasu”, apparently, is the title for local version of British structured reality format phenomenon Gogglebox as it continues it global rollout and marches into living rooms in the east Asia country.

According to the British format creators “Jakjunghago” means determined, while “Bonbangsasu” is a slang/jargon term meaning “to catch the premiere” or “watching it on-air”.

So in Seoul and beyond, people will be asked to tune in “Determined to Watch the Premiere”.

The South Korean show will feature a range of families akin to the casting of the UK model of the Channel 4 original, produced by All3media’s Studio Lambert.

South Korean’s are to watch a lower-income family; a retired older couple; foreign exchange students from Brazil and Bangladesh and a young professional couple watching telly.

All3media, the big teases, also say a familiar face to South Korean audiences is likely to star as well with their family. Monkey wonders if Psy may bring his Gangnam Style to the show, set to air on KBS weekly.
