Gogglebox stars savagely tear into Boris Johnson's lockdown speech

Gogglebox stars drew plenty of giggles as they ripped Prime Minister Boris Johnson apart.

Friday night's show had viewers in fits of laughter when they sat down to watch the cast's take on the PM's lockdown speech last Sunday.

He urged the UK to 'stay alert' for the coronavirus in a change of messaging as the first tentative steps are made to relax the nationwide lockdown.

But he was slammed for mixed messages - and wasn't about to get away without being blasted by the box-watchers.

Boris was panned five days on from his address, with many of the stars taking aim.

The Siddiquis had plenty to say on what they heard.

IT technician Umar told his brother Baasit: "It's not often a government announcement needs a disclaimer after it - 'no rationality or scientific advice was used in this announcement'."

Boris' return to work idea came under scrutiny - and lorry driver Tom not happy about how he was told to get there.

He grumbled to the other Malones: "Even better by walking? I work 70 miles away!”

Brother and sister Peter and Sophie were taken aback at the messages coming out of number 10.

"Unlimited exercise? People are to use that like the unlimited salad bowls at Pizza Hut!" Peter shouted.

Daniel and husband Stephen also weren't impressed.

Stephen teased: "Work from home if you can..... if you can. If you can't...then you should go to work. Brilliant!"

After praising the public for adhering to a seven-week lockdown, the Prime Minister said: "It would be madness now to throw away that achievement by allowing a second spike.

"We must stay alert. We must continue to control the virus and save lives."
