Gogglebox stars moved to tears after Jodie Comer scene

Gogglebox stars were moved to tears watching Jodie Comer's performance in Help.

The new series of the popular Channel 4 programme made its long awaited return tonight.

Fans of the show rejoiced as our favourite TV personalities, such as Lee Riley and Jenny Newby, invited us back into their homes while they provided commentary on a range of this week's best television.

The Goggleboxers watched Emma Raducanu's sporting triumph in the US Open, ITV2 show Ready to Mingle - and they also tuned into Liverpool set-drama Help.

The 120 minute feature starring scouse superstars Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham premiered last night - and told the moving story of the relationship between a young care home worker and a patient at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans were brought to tears at the drama last night and the powerful scenes also overwhelmed the Gogglebox stars.

A scene which showed Jodie Comer's Sarah trying to care for an ill care home patient particularly moved stars such as Pete Sandiford to tears.

He said "We didn't see any of this because we were locked down at home. It hits home, doesn't it."

The TV personalities were particularly blown over by Jodie Comer's performance with Giles praising the Childwall actress' Liverpool accent.

He questioned: "How do you pick up a Liverpool accent like that?"

His wife Mary immediately corrected him: "She comes from Liverpool."

Gogglebox viewers took to Twitter to say they were moved to tears again by the clips from the drama.

Sinead said: "I cried at #Help last night. Crying again. #Gogglebox."

Carl commented: "Cried my eyes out watching #Help on @Channel4 last night, and crying again watching it on #gogglebox. @JodieComerDaily and @StephenGraham73 and the whole cast were amazing. If this doesn’t win every @BAFTA available I will be shocked. The most moving piece of TV I’ve ever seen"

Another user posted: "Help is so hard to watch."

*Gogglebox airs Friday at 9pm on Channel 4
