Gogglebox stars land massive new job after quitting show which left fans gutted

Ex-Gogglebox stars George and Joe Baggs have bagged themselves an exciting new job in the media over the festive period - after quitting the Channel 4 staple earlier this year.

George, 20, and Joe, 25, are raring to join Radio 1 for their first-ever TikTok Christmas Day takeover, with the duo taking to the BBC airwaves from 3.30pm on the day.

The broadcaster says that the two are set to give 'fans the opportunity to hear their favourite TikTok stars in a completely different light'.

The Mirror reports that the upcoming line-up throughout the festive period will 'soundtrack the Christmas celebrations' across the UK on the big day, as part of a BBC initiative to find fresh talent for their radio shows. The broadcaster took to social media to shortlist ten TikTok personalities from the likes of comedy, entertainment and music - all of whom can be heard from 2pm and 6pm on December 25.

On TikTok Joe boasts an impressive 1.4 million followers on the app under the handle @joebxggs and has racked up over 87 million likes on his posts. Both he and George's TikToks mainly consist of family-related content, usually, pranks, dancing or miming videos.

This is a part of BBC Radio 1's wider plan to give 29 new DJs and presenters a chance to fill in as the main roster of names take their break over the festive season. The exciting announcement for the brothers comes after the Baggs family quit their sofa gig at the Channel 4 show earlier this year.

The Baggs family – matriarch Lisa, husband Terry, and sons Joe and George – joined the hit programme back in 2020 and filmed three series before announcing they had quit. The family from Essex decided to end their run as TV critics due to work commitments and issued a joint statement teasing future projects to announce their departure from the hit show.

The statement read: “After three incredible seasons on Channel 4’s Gogglebox we have taken the decision to leave the show. We have loved every second of being part of the Gogglebox family and it’s truly been the opportunity of a lifetime.

"With lots of exciting opportunities approaching for us all, we just couldn’t commit to filming another series, but are so grateful for the opportunity."
