Gogglebox stars in tears as they react to Prince Philip's death

Stars of Channel 4's hit show Gogglebox were seen in tears as the moment news broke about the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was aired on Friday night's show.

The TV review show aired the moment BBC coverage was interrupted last Friday, April 9, to announce the news of the death of the Queen's husband, and the Gogglebox panel's reactions.

Jenny Newby was in tears as she said: "I don't know what to say, it's the first time I've been lost for words."

Her best pal Lee Riley said: "I'll let you off this time you can cry."

Mary and Giles became emotional as they discussed the royal's contributions, with Mary in tears as she said of the Queen: "She vowed that she would serve her people all her life and that's all she's done. And he's helped her".

Giles added: "He's been a very good example to men like me helping you."

The couple were later seen changed into all black ensembles as a mark of respect.

Brother and sister Sophie and Pete Sandiford were impressed with archive images of the Duke, with Pete noting: "He was a dapper chap when he was younger", with sister adding: "He was a bit of a dish".

Although the emotional reactions left some viewers saying it was "fake" as they didn't believe it could have been caught live as the news broke.

One said: "This was just weird, soz. I don't see why they'd pretend they all just found out the news as the production crew were filming them in their homes?"

But others leapt to their defence saying: "Why shouldn’t they cry and feel emotional. A man's died regardless if you like the Royals or not. It’s human to feel emotional."

Another added: "of course that wasn’t a live reaction as the news was broken at 12pm and none of them would know it was to happen but a live reaction isn’t what’s important."
