Gogglebox stars forced to defend themselves after viewers accuse show of breaking social distancing rules

Gogglebox stars have been forced to defend themselves as viewers criticise the show for 'breaking social distancing rules'.

The Channel 4 show has been continuing to air during the coronavirus pandemic but has come under fire each week for the apparent breach of the measures.

Complaints have been made to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom and fans have hit out on social media over the issue.

This forced Channel 4 into responding to the complaints on air before the most recent episode of Gogglebox on Friday night.

The announcer said: "Just in case you're worried, they are all keeping to the guidelines of social distancing."

And now the Malone family - Tom, Julie, Tom Jnr and Shaun - have had their say on the matter.

The family have continued to appear on the show (Channel 4)

In a tweet, the Manchester family said: "Just going to put this out there so we are all up to date, I know the social distancing rules too, I love my Grandkids, I would never put them or anyone else's health in danger.

"My daughter and her children live with us,so she can go to work as a nurse x"

Earlier this week, Ian Katz, director of programmes at Channel 4, explained the secret to keeping the Bafta-award winning show on air.

He hailed Gogglebox as one of the "real miracles" of the network during the current crisis.
