Gogglebox star Pete Sandiford stunned viewers as the show returned on Friday, with the reveal that he was engaged.
Pete and sister Sophie, have established themselves as firm favourites with fans since joining the Channel 4 programme a few years ago and, while the first episode of the new series gave them a lot to talk about as they cast an eye on the likes of Saturday Night Takeaway and the News, Pete had some news of his own.
Pete and Sophie are in the Gogglebox cast for the new series alongside the likes of Ellie and Izzi and Jenny and Lee and It was sibling Sophie who dropped Pete's engagement to girlfriend Paige Yeomans, into conversation, when she asked: "Do you feel any different now that you've got engaged?"
"Yeah, I think," Pete replied, adding:"I feel like an even bigger responsibility. I don't know why. I'm going to have a wife."
"Yes, you're going to have a wife," Sophie told him.
As the two came into shot, Pete then told Sophie she'd be his "best wo-man" after she quizzed him on who he'd have as best man for his wedding.
Fans were quick to congratulate Pete on social media. One excited fan tweeted: "OMG Pete engaged???? Think my neighbours just heard me screeching"
Equally as thrilled, another responded: "why am i so invested in pete from gogglebox getting engaged" and a third posted: "Aw congratulations to Pete getting engaged...cant believe how much I've missed #gogglebox...it's like company when you live alone something to look forward to cause there ain't much else"
Other fans weren't as delighted to hear that Pete was spoken for, with another tweeting: "Is anyone else secretly/not so secretly gutted Pete’s engaged?"
