A popular Gogglebox cast member was left fighting for their life after getting coronavirus, with their family have also been infected.

Star of the hit Channel 4 show, Jonathan Tapper, was left severely ill after contracting COVID-19 and 'heaving for every breath', according to wife Nikki.

She told the Daily Star: " ‘One night Jonathan came home from work and was unable to move.

"He had a cough and high temperature. He laid down on the sofa and – with no exaggeration – he stayed there for two weeks in our lounge room"

Nikki revealed that she and the rest of the Tappers also got coronavirus, but the biggest fears were for Jonathan's health as is condition worsened.

The 52-year-old suffers from diabetes, meaning his reaction to the global pandemic was more severe.

She explained: "I rushed downstairs and couldn’t believe how pale he was, heaving with every breath.

"I tried to keep calm, asking him all the time if he could breathe. I felt that I couldn’t think straight because I was so unwell myself at the time too.."

Jonathan is currently resting at home in order to get back to full health.

Unlike other shows which have been forced to suspend production due to the coronavirus outbreak, Gogglebox is still filming, with cast members shooting their reactions to TV shows using cameras installed in their homes rather than being filmed by a crew.
