Gogglebox star Georgia doing Great North Run with dad after health warning

Gogglebox star Georgia Lynn will swap the sofa for the streets of Newcastle to run this year's Great North Run alongside her dad, after he was given a severe health warning from doctors.

Georgia and best mate Abbie have been entertaining fans of the long-running Channel 4 show for the past two series, giving their thoughts on a wide range of TV shows from the comfort of their couch.

The pair were on screen for the last series of Gogglebox and are expected to be back for the new run which will get going in September.

And that is the same month that she and her dad Clayton will joins thousands of others for the 2021 Great North Run, which will have an adjusted route this time; starting and ending in Newcastle, rather than finishing in South Shields like it has done in years gone by.

Georgia and Clayton will run the world famous half marathon on Sunday, September 12 for Diabetes UK, a cause very close to their heart as Clayton has diabetes himself and was told to make drastic changes to his lifestyle to avoid lasting damage to his body.

Georgia's dad Clayton (Justgiving)

Explaining more on their JustGiving page, Georgia writes: "My Dad has struggled with his Diabetes for years. After years of many appointments and struggles it took a turn for the worse and started affecting his sight.

"He was given an ultimatum: Change your relationship with food and lifestyle or loose your sight, so he started running!

I’m the first lockdown he struggled to run 5K in 45 minutes but he set his sights high and aimed for the GNR. So here we are doing it together.

"Diabetes UK have always been there to support him and the disease itself requires more funding for patients, awareness and support. Therefore we are both running the GNR together to try and raise some money for a much needed charity."
