Gogglebox's Pete Sandiford to be a dad as co-stars and viewers react to shock baby news

Gogglebox cast members and viewers alike have been quick to react to the news that star of the show Pete Sandiford is to be a dad.

The hugely popular Channel 4 programme returned for a new episode on Friday night, with mention of Prince Philip's death at the start of the show.

And something else that grabbed fans' attention from the get-go was Pete's baby news.

As they always are, Pete and sister Sophie were shown sitting on their sofa when Sophie remarked: "Does it look like me?"

The camera then revealed exactly what Sophie was commenting on- a scan picture of Pete's first child with fiance Paige Yeomans.

"No," Pete told her, before joking: "It's going to be good looking!

"Innit mad, I'm actually going to be a dad to somebody."

Pete shared a picture of the baby scan, with his head superimposed on the body on Instagram, writing: " I do have a hunch the baby might look like me....."

Gogglebox mentions Prince Philip's passing in Friday night's episode

Co-star Ellie Warner commented: "Massive congratulations to you and Paige...you’ll have to start making dad jokes now," to which Pete replied: "too late! and thank you"

Her sister and Gogglebox partner in crime Izzi was among the many others who commented on the news, with her telling Pete: "congratulations you two so happy for you!! Just to add to ellie...and Dad dancing!!"

Fans were quick to react too, with one taking to Twitter to exclaim: "OMG PETE'S HAVING A BABY" and another responding: "noooo Pete from gogglebox is having a baby I WILL CRY"

A third tweeted: "Ah congratulations to Pete on the news of his baby - how exciting."

Prior to Pete's baby surprise, Gogglebox addressed Prince Philip's death on Friday, with narrator Craig Cash beginning the show by saying: "In the week where we said goodbye to His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh."
