Gogglebox's Mary cries over Sound of Music's 'simpler times' - leaving fans with raised eyebrows

Gogglebox favourite Mary was left in tears tonight as she lamented over "simpler times" in The Sound of Music - but fans were left with raised eyebrows as they pointed out that she may have forgotten a major plot point in the film.

Maria, played by Julie Andrews, was seen teaching the von Trapp children songs as they sat in the fields.

After watching the clip, Mary appeared emotional as she said: "A little simple, uncomplicated childhood - that children don't have because of the internet."

Mary was in tears on Gogglebox this evening (Channel 4)

Her husband Giles simply laughed, telling her: "Nutty, don't start!"

But fans took to Twitter as they wryly pointed out that it hadn't really been "simpler times" as the von Trapp family had been chased by Nazis as they sought asylum across the mountains.

One jokingly tweeted: "I'd rather have the Internet than the nazis after me."

While another quipped: "Yeah right, being chased by Nazis over the mountains and seeking asylum."

A third wrote: "The movie is literally about a family fleeing from Nazis..."

But others were still touched by Mary's emotional reaction, with one writing: "I always love how Mary gets so emotional and Giles darent say too much but tries not to laugh."

While another commented: "Couldnt agree more Mary, feel tearful watching it, beautiful scenery."

"Ah, I love Mary. its been an emotional Christmas," another commented.

*Gogglebox returns next Friday at 9pm on Channel 4
