Gogglebox's Mary at centre of racism storm after impression of Kim Jong-Un's sister

A Gogglebox star has been slammed by viewers for doing a 'racist' impression on camera.

Long-serving cast member Mary Killen has been criticised by some fans of the Channel 4 show after reacting to a news bulletin about Kim Jong-Un’s ‘apparent public appearance’ following his heart surgery.

The newsreader in the clip, which aired near the end o Friday's episode, said: "We say apparent because there’s no independent verification of the claims by North Korea’s news agency, but it is the first time the leader has appeared since speculation began about his health," and reacting to it, Mary told husband Giles: "What they might have done if they were very cunning was to rehearse this eventuality so he made this film of him walking past the monument for later use."

Moving onto speak about Kim Jong-Un’s sister, Mary said: "I think what will happen is, if he is dead and this is a fake video then the sister will just need to put things in place for her to take the reigns. ‘And then she’ll say “Oh great leader, he die'."

And it was the mimicking of the North Korean accent that landed Mary in hot water with some people watching Gogglebox at home.

One tweeted: "Meanwhile in Wiltshire, Giles and his wife Mary do racist impressions," and another viewer reacted: "Wow Mary from gogglebox is racist as hell."

A third questioned why producers aired the footage, posting: "As if @Channel4 let Mary’s shocking racist impression on @C4Gogglebox air."

However, others sided with Mary, with someone else responding: "The fairies are out again complaining about Mary's North Korean impression as its "racist". I'm sorry but I haven't met a person who hasnt tried doing an accent at one point in their life so we must all be racists?"

And another added: "People calling her racist need to give their heads a wobble! Does that mean we cant impersonate a scouse or Irish accent again?"
