Gogglebox's June Bernicoff reveals Scousers kindness after Leon's death on BBC Breakfast

Googlebox star June revealed how Scousers were "really kind" after her husband Leon passed away.

Leon and June Bernicoff, from Allerton , won the hearts of the nation with their unbelievable on-screen chemistry.

Sadly Leon passed away in December 2017 - leaving June heartbroken.

But sitting on the BBC Breakfast sofa today June revealed how the public's reaction helped her get through her grief.

She said: "It was strange at first, Leon was always with me at the supermarket - usually at the deli counter looking for freebies.

"And so when people recognised me I could tell they wanted to say something to me but didn't know if they should come over, so I just smiled and then they approached me.

"So many people would squeeze my hand and ask me if I was OK and how I was doing.

"People were really, really kind."

June also said she enjoys watching re-runs of Gogglebox because she can hear Leon's voice through them.

She said: "It gives me comfort, he had such a distinctive voice, so to hear that again is good, I think I miss his voice more than anything else."

June revealed how the couple came to be on Gogglebox.

She said: "He was approached when he was playing bridge and he came home and said we're going to be on television - he thought it was gonna be the Leon Bernicoff show.

"It all went quiet for a few months, my family was worried about how he'd come across - Leon has no filter - and we all thought he'd say something we'd all regret.

Since Leon's death June has wrote a book about their love story - which she said has helped her through the grieving process.

She said: "I was was approached to do it, Leon always said ill write our love story one day - like it was something remarkable.

"But when he died I  thought yeah I'll do it.

"It helped me to focus on that instead of dwelling on my sadness."
