Gogglebox's Jenny and Lee share poignant message on Instagram during Prince Philip's funeral

Gogglebox stars Jenny Newby and Lee Riley made a poignant post on Instagram during Prince Philip's funeral.

The Duke of Edinburgh died last Friday, aged 99, and was laid to rest on Saturday afternoon in a service at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The Queen and 29 other mourners attended the funeral which paid tribute to Prince Philip's "kindness, humour and humanity."

The service also followed Covid guidelines with all public elements cancelled, limited guests and other protocols in place.

But many focused on the Queen as the 94-year-old Monarch said a final goodbye to her husband of 73 years.

An image, taken by the PA News agency, has been widely circulated online showing Her Majesty sat alone in her seat in the ancient carved wooden stalls of St George’s Chapel while the other members of her family were walking in the procession.

Sharing the poignant message themselves, Jenny and Lee took a moment to remind people that the royal family are "all human".

They wrote: "Whatever your feelings on the Royal Family or the coverage of it on the telly remember:

"A wife has lost her husband. They have lost their Dad. They have lost their Granddad. They have lost their Great Granddad. They have lost a friend.

"And they are all human #PrincePhilipfuneral."

The post was flooded with responses from their followers.

"Well said. So sad to see our Queen sitting on her own," one replied.

Another commented: "Well said you two legends! So sad seeing her on her own!"

"100% agree...what a beautiful service," a third added.

Jenny and Lee were also seen reacting to the news of Prince Philip's death during Friday night's episode of Gogglebox.

Jenny, 65, began to cry as she watched the BBC News bulletin before best pal Lee, 51, comforted her by joking: "I'll let you off this time, you can cry."

She said of the Duke's passing: "I don't know what to say, I think it's the first time I've been lost for words."
