Gogglebox's Ellie Warner defends shoving dog after furious viewers report her to RSPCA

Gogglebox's Ellie Warner has defended herself against accusations of animal abuse after she was filmed pushing her dog off furniture in last week's episode.

Furious viewers reported Ellie to the RSPCA over Twitter after the official Gogglebox account tweeted a clip of her shoving Mick the Italian greyhound off a foot stool.

But Ellie has hit back at the allegations, insisting Mick only fell a foot onto the floor because she had scalded herself with piping hot baked beans.

"Sorry everyone was scolded by burning hot beans, the foot stool is literally a foot from the floor so mick was not hurt," she wrote on Twitter.

"I love my dog and would never hurt him and I also would not let him eat Kentucky fried chicken as it is not suitable food for dogs."

But one viewer urged Ellie to brush up on her ownership skills, telling her: "It doesn't matter that the stool was a foot from the floor, should not have been pushed. Corrected, and trained properly. Perhapes take a class or two, you can teach him, not punish. Reward him with his in treat."

Ellie replied: "Thank you for your comment and under normal circumstances that would have been appropriate but considering I was being scalded that was what I had time for in that particular moment, mick is not hurt and is a very happy dog have a nice weekend."

But some followers were still unhappy with her response and tagged in the RSPCA's official Twitter account.

"This is sad to see, it's unnecessary to push a dog away like that :( We only advocate the use of positive reinforcement training, as opposed to punishing bad behaviour in dogs," the animal welfare charity said.

Ellie hit back, telling them: "You are welcome to visit and investigate any time please feel free to dm me to make arrangements thank you."

But the charity assured her they wouldn't be investigating, adding: "Thanks for the offer, Ellie, but we don’t need to come and see you. We were simply responding to people’s concerns. If we can help with any advice in any way please let us know."

A representative for the RSPCA told Mirror Online that there are no plans to investigate the matter further.
