Gogglebox responds to viewer backlash over cast 'flouting' social distancing rules

Gogglebox have responded to backlash from fans, with the show continuing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Countries including the UK have been on lockdown and practicing social distancing measures since the end of March, in a bid to tackle COVID-19.

The show has continued filming throughout, with Channel 4 confirming the measures they have taken to keep the show going.

It was recently revealed cameras had been placed in the houses of the stars so that footage can continue to be captured, without camera crews on location.

But the show faced a backlash recently as some of the cast continued to film together, despite them believed to live in a different household.

Ellie Warner continued the show with her partner Nat last month with her sister Izzi not in attendance.

With it thought to be down to isolation restrictions, fans were confused when the following week the missing sister was back on the show.

While it was confirmed that Lee Riley had moved in with Jenny Newby for the time being, fans were left unsure about other families who they were sure didn't normally live together.

As the backlash continued, the Channel 4 announcer commented ahead of the latest episode starting.

Suggesting there was no flouting of rules, Gogglebox attempted to put minds at rest.

The announcer said: "Just in case you're worried, they are all keeping to the guidelines of social distancing."

The comment did nothing for some viewers though, who remained convinced rules were being broken.

One viewer tweeted: "Ellie & Izzy mouthing off about Lockdown when they've clearly not followed the rules - I'd love to see my sister!"

Another said: "How can the two sisters be moaning about Boris Johnson when they aren't helping the situation, they shouldn't be in contact they live in separate households."

A third commented: "So I watch every week, love it, but when the announcer says they're all following #Govt guidelines #Gogglebox I still scratch my head. 2 sisters in Leeds? 2 brothers in Oldham...maybe they do live together but the sisters don't I've truly misunderstood the guidance re households?"

Gogglebox continues Fridays at 9pm on Channel4.
