June and Leon Bernicoff were two of the most popular - as well as entertaining - couples to ever appear on Gogglebox.
But following Leon's death in December, 2017, June decided her time on the show had run its course, devastating the pair's fans.
Heartbreaking, June has now passed away aged 82 following a short illness.
Channel 4 and production company Studio Lambert issued a statement on behalf of her family, confirming the sad news.
It said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that Gogglebox's much-loved June Bernicoff passed away at the age of 82 on May 5 at home with her family by her side after a short illness.
"As the first couple to be cast for Gogglebox back in 2013, June and her husband Leon were a huge part of the programme's success.
"Their warmth, wit and contrasting personalities endeared them to the nation during the course of the first 10 series.
"Following Leon's passing in December 2017, June wrote her first book, Leon And June: Our Story, which was a deeply moving and entertaining chronicle of their 60-year love affair.
"A remarkably independent, principled woman with a vivacious sense of humour and a huge passion for life, June will be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.
"Despite her departure from the show in 2017, she remained a passionate supporter of the programme, watching it every week, and she was in regular contact with the production team.
"Our thoughts are with June's family - Helen and Ian, Julie and Marc, and her beloved grandchildren Frances, Sam and Faye.
"The family would like to ask for privacy at this sad time, but would like to thank the hospice staff that supported them and cared for June so wonderfully and with such compassion in her final weeks.
Her death is not related to coronavirus.
Leon and June were instantly taken to viewers' hearts when they appeared in the very first show.
With their adorable sense of humour, warmth and easy banter, the pensioner pair soon became national treasures.
And their fans joined June in her heartbreak when 83-year-old Leon passed away in December, 2017.
Devoted wife June left Gogglebox straight after her husband's death, saying it jst wouldn't be the same without him.
And June revealed how Leon battled through his illness to make sure he appeared for their fans on final time in the Christmas special.
She told Graham Norton, when she appeared on his Saturday morning show: "He hadn't been very well over the weekend, and I suggested he didn't do it.
"But Leon was determined not to let loyal viewers down, and told her, 'I'm sitting here in my Christmas jumper waiting to entertain the nation'."
Brave Leon even reassured his wife of 63 years that he would "be on it" for the next series.
Heartbroken June struggled to enjoy the things she had loved with her beloved Leon beside her.
She even admitted she struggled to sit down and watch TV because it brought back so many unhappy memories.
June said: "I don't watch much TV these days, if I'm honest. I find it difficult. I've been reading a lot more, or listening to the radio, but I just feel restless whenever I sit down to watch it. I find myself getting up to make a lot of cups of tea and I can't settle."
Then June began making small, but significant, changes to the home she had shared with her late husband.
First, she switched the furniture round and moved the iconic armchairs the couple used to sit on when they appeared on Gogglebox.
Then, she made the difficult decision to leave Liverpool, the city she had called home for more than six decades, in October last year.
June revealed her news on Twitter, writing: "Good Bye Liverpool my home for 62 years! Reluctantly leaving.
"Thank you guys I’ll miss your warmth, humour and affection! Very special people."
June added that she is moving closer to her family in 'Warks'.
June and Leon had met while they were both at teacher training college.
For five years they had to keep their romance a secret because Leon's Jewish family wouldn't approve of him having a Catholic girlfriend.
They married when June was 22 and moved into their Liverpool semi-detached house where they shot to fame while filming Gogglebox.
Gogglebox producers met Leon on at bridge club - they were looking for people to take part in a new show and he jumped at the chance.
June didn't think they'd be kept on the show but the couple became one of the star attractions of Gogglebox, which has 3.6million viewers every week.
Two months after he died there was a special tribute show in his honour and June says this was the first time his death really hit her.
She explained: "I looked over to his chair, and when I saw it, that was the first time I really, really cried after he died.
"It was the start of my grieving process, funny as that sounds.
"People kept expecting me to burst into tears in the supermarket, but grief is very private.
"I remember switching off the TV and thinking, 'yhose cameras will never be there again'.
June made sure she still watched Gogglebox every week because it was full of so many happy memories for her.
She added: "It’s such a big part of me, and the other stars are like family members, in a way."
