Gogglebox issues apology to 'hurt' Eamonn Holmes over 'idiotic and cruel' edit

Gogglebox's production company Studio Lambert have issued an apology to Eamonn Holmes after he said he was "hurt beyond belief" that the programme edited out his dad's death.

Studio Lambert have said that they have since decided to edit the episode for future repeats and All4.

Eamonn had appeared on the celebrity version of the show with wife Ruth Langsford.

Each of the stars had been reacting to a touching story where a child phoned 999 to report that his father was having a heart attack.

In response, however, Eamonn appeared to make a lighthearted comment - which he subsequently received backlash for on Twitter.

He took to social media soon after the episode aired to share that he was left "deeply hurt" that Gogglebox had chosen to edit out a clip talking about his father dying from a heart attack at the side of the road.

Eamonn dubbed the edit "cruel" and called for Gogglebox to apologise.

Studio Lambert have since released a statement, which read: "We have apologised to Eamonn over what happened in this week's episode.

"We understand and respect Eamonn's feelings on such a deeply personal story.

"We have taken the decision to edit the episode for future repeats and All4. We look forward to working with Eamonn and Ruth for the rest of the series."

Eamonn and Ruth had watched the moment during BBC's Ambulance in which a man lost consciousness, and it seemed like he had died - but the child was amazingly able to resuscitate him, and all the celebs were overcome with emotion.

This brought Eamonn and Ruth's conversation to Ruth's labour with their son Jack, born in 2002.

Eamonn said: "All I can say is, when your contractions started when you had Jack.

"I don't like singing my own praises, but thank goodness I was the ambulance that day, I got you there in the nick of time."

Taking to Twitter, Eamonn had responded: "In reply to a number of complaints .... I am hurt beyond belief that @C4Gogglebox chose not to use me talking about my Father dying from a Heart Attack at the side of a road and replace it with a funny story following a young lad giving his Father CPR . Idiotic and cruel edit."

*Celebrity Gogglebox returns next Saturday at 9pm on Channel 4
