Gogglebox hit with 88 Ofcom complaints as fans called for star to be removed over 'vile' comment

Gogglebox is one of the most loved and viewed series on TV, but a recent episode sparked controversy. Watching King Charles' Coronation coverage, many of the Channel 4 stars had nothing but praise for our monarch.

Jenny Newby and Lee Riley embraced the mood wearing props for the big event and husband and wife duo Ronnie and Annie were watching in royal attire But Glasgow couple, Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle, caused a stir after a comment about the landmark event.

Joe appeared to mock the celebration as he sang a chant about the King after the Prince of Wales pledged his allegiance to his father before those in the Abbey and those watching were invited to do the same.

Following the show, 88 people complained the Ofcom and dozens of people took to Twitter to complain about the 'vile' remark. One person wrote: "Watching Gogglebox and nearly broke the TV when Roisin and Joe came on!! Get them off!"

Another wrote: "Wonder if Roisin and Joe still had the bank holiday off work for the coronation".

But some viewers were impressed with the song. One person tweeted: "My highlights of the Gogglebox cast's take on the Coronation Joe representing Glasgow, most of Scot.."

Another Gogglebox couple hit the headline this week after sharing a 'racy' holiday snap. Dave and Shirley Griffiths have been giving their thoughts on the week's television for eight years, and have been married for more than four decades.

The Welsh stars often use Instagram to update fans on when they can expect them on telly next, and occasionally share pictures from their lives away from the sofa. As Britain basked in sunshine at the weekend, Dave and Shirley used the late spring weather as an opportunity to go back in the archives and share a glimpse from their past with their fans.

In the grainy throwback snap, a very tanned Dave and Shirley can be seen having fun and drinking some beers with a friend in the Spanish sun, with Shirley kicking her leg out as she sports a thick perm. Dave wrote alongside the picture: "Me and Shirley in the day happy times #benidorm #funinthesun #holidays #tui."
