Gogglebox families react to the youngest ever Mastermind champion

Regular Gogglebox viewers are used to seeing the gang lose their minds over those can't-miss TV moments.

But in Friday's (April 30) episode, there was a new bar set for amazement and general feel-good vibes.

It all happened as the gang were watching Mastermind on Monday night on BBC Two.

The headline news was the success of Jonathan Gibson - at 24 years old, the youngest Mastermind champion in the programme's 49-year history.

And even as the star of the show notched up 11 out of 11 in his specialist subject - comedy songwriting duo Flanders and Swann - and bagged a further 17 points on the general knowledge round, the Gogglebox families couldn't quite believe it.

"Yes, Jonathan! That man is bright you know," Marcus told Mica, while Stephen and Daniel Lustig-Webb had a giggle over Jonathan's reaction to his win: "Oh my god, he looks like he just lost his virginity!"

But the best response had to be from Pete Sandiford, who said: "This puts my colouring competition at McDonald's win to shame, really."

Leanne Thomas tweeted: " #gogglebox made Mastermind feel intense," while David Oliver was thrilled at the TV stars' reactions: " #gogglebox i am not sure Jonathan the Mastermind Champ has ever been called a "rude boy" before tonight."

  • Gogglebox is on Channel 4 on Fridays at 9pm
