Gogglebox episode 'edited' over Alex Salmond court case fears

A recent episode of Gogglebox has had to be 'edited' after comments about former Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond.

During Friday night's episode, the shows participants were watching the Question Time Leaders Special and whilst discussing the performance of Scotland's current first minister Nicola Sturgen, the Siddiqui family made reference to Salmond.

The issue, however, is that the 64-year-old is currently facing a sexual assault trial.

Salmond appeared in court last month and pleaded not guilty to 14 sex offence charges, including the attempted rape of a woman during the Scottish independence referendum campaign.

He denies all the allegations against 10 women.

Despite appearing in the first airing of the episode, Channel 4 have confirmed the change after it was reported the entire episode had been pulled.

A spokesperson said: "This episode of the programme has been edited and is now available on All 4."

The decision was made over fears of contempt of court, which means the media must not broadcast or publish anything that might influence jurors and prejudice a trial.

Judge Lady Dorrian continued the preliminary hearing until January 22 and set a trial date for March 9, which is expected to last four weeks.

Speaking outside court after the hearing, Salmond said he would defend himself "vigorously" during the trial.
