Gogglebox cast cringe as Secret Crush musician Darryl serenades the girl of his dreams

The Gogglebox families were left cringing as a lovestruck musician confessed his feelings for his crush - by singing her a song.

On Friday's episode of the Channel 4 show the families were watching ITV2's Secret Crush, billed as "the show where the nation's lovesick make a surprise confession to the person they have the hots for".

It saw Darryl confessing his feelings for Aine with a self-penned tune about how they met while working in a bar in Spain.

When the concept of the show was revealed, Sophie in Blackpool quipped: "I'd definitely pack pepper spray in my bag for this," while brother Pete added: "I'd pack a taser".

Some of the Gogglebox crew could then hardly bear to watch as Darryl, guitar in hand, announced: "I'm going to sing her a song".

"Oh Darryl, don't sing for f**** sake," groaned Tom Malone in Manchester, putting his hands over his face in despair.

Izzi in Leeds said: "Nobody ever wants to be serenaded." while Giles told wife Mary in Wiltshire: "This could be a deal breaker".

Stephen in Brighton was more impressed, telling husband Daniel: "That's quite sweet actually but I don't think she's interested."

When hopeful Darryl asked his crush if they could make it work, Aine told him she saw him as a friend.

"Darryl now walking out with his guitar between his legs," Pete said. "We've all been there. Get yourself down to the local bar."
