Gofundme started after 'devastating fire' forced 50-home evacuation

A Gofundme page has been created to help a farmer who 'lost so much' after large fire broke out in Creswell. A major incident was declared and 50 homes evacuated after the fire engulfed the farmland in Creswell model village.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 4.50pm on Friday, August 12. Families were told to avoid the area and a number of roads were closed while the blue light services worked on the incident.

The incident is just over the Derbyshire border in the Bolsover district. Rachel Whelan, who organised the page, said that the donations will be given to the farmer at the end of September to help him get back on his feet following the 'devastating' fire.

In a message on the Gofundme page she said: "I live in model village right beside Elmton Close where the fire happened on Friday 12th August and after walking today to see the damage I am shocked to say the least.

"The poor Farmer who has lost so much because of this fire. It was devastating. I am sure he is at his wits end worrying financially and how on earth he is going to sort all his fields out.

"If I can raise a little to help him I will take it to him at the end of September.. Anything will help, I know times are hard. Thankyou to everyone that day because we are all so lucky the wind blew the field way and didn't take all our houses so I think we should help him. Thankyou all xxx."
