A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help the family of a three-year-old girl who tragically died yesterday after she was knocked down by a bus.
It is understood Sophia Melnychuk had been playing near her home when the crash occurred at about 4pm.
She was fatally injured in the horrific crash in the Castle Heights housing estate in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, and she was pronounced dead a short time later.
And now, a local resident of Carrick-on-Suir has set up a fundraising page to help her family.
It reads:
"On Tuesday the 13th of April our family friends Andre, Maria, Maxsum and Denis lost their beautiful little daughter and sister Sophia Melnychuk who was only 3 years old in a tragic accident.
"I live in Carrick on Suir my who life and have never seen such despair or been apart of such heartbreak for a family, they are devastated and cannot believe their little girl is gone forever.
"We have been close friends with this family along time and want to support them anyway we can and as best we can. We have set up this go fund me to support the family financially to help with Sophia's funeral and other costs.
"This tragedy has shocked the town and all the people of Carrick on Suir and I hope all of you reading this will want to help and support this beautiful family through this heartbreak time."
The driver of the bus involved in the tragedy was treated at the scene.
Local Sinn Fein councillor David Dunne said: “It’s unbelievable. I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and my heart goes out to them – and to all the Eastern European community from Carrick-on-Suir and for all the people who have been affected by this tragedy.
“They would be a well-known family within the Eastern European community here and local people are shocked.”
