GoFundMe Page set up for Dublin man, 46, with incurable disease Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

A GoFundMe Page has been set up for Dublin man, John Hogan, who has developed an incurable disease known as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

IPF is a type of lung disease which sees scarring on the lungs occur for an unknown reason.

The scarring gets progressively worse over time and as a result, it becomes harder for people to breath as the lungs can't take in a sufficient amount of oxygen.

Dublin student sent to psychiatric hospital was actually suffering from deadly brain bug

From Balbriggan, John has a rare progressive form of the disease and as a result, his functional ability has rapidly declined over the last few months.

John requires a lung transplant to survive.

The fundraiser for the 46-year-old was set up by his friends who describe John as being a "fantastic dad to his two girls, a brother, a son, but most importantly, a friend to us all."

Man arrested in connection with serious city centre assault that left victim with life threatening injuries

They added: "As both John and his family have a long road ahead of them, our aim is to take away some of the financial burden resulting from this disease, to ensure they can all remain focused on the transplant process and the recovery thereafter.

"John is a kind and decent man who deserves all the kindness Balbriggan has to give. I went to school with John and thanks Debbie for letting me know. A true Balbriggan man his and his family deserves all help we can give."

The page has already collected almost half of its €10,000 target with 71 people donating in five days.

If you would like to donate, you can find more information on the GoFundMe page here.
