GoFundMe page and tribute football match organised following death of Dublin football coach Andy Rice

A GoFundMe page and tribute fundraising football match has been organised for Dublin football coach Andy Rice who passed away on Monday.

The fundraising page was created the day after the former Cabinteely FC manager suddenly passed away and within the space of 24 hours, has acquired €11,000 of its €15,000 target.

There is also a tribute football match being organised for Andy which will take place at the end of April.

The 41-year-old passed away on March 25 after he lost his battle with illness leaving behind his distraught wife and two children.

All funds raised through the GoFundMe page will go towards the expenses of the funeral.

A statement on the page says: "The passing of Andy was so unexpected and still doesn't seem real. He was a loving father to Lewis and Connie and a loving husband to Janice

"With his passing so sudden and unforeseen it would be incredibly unfair to leave such an expense of a funeral to his grieving family.

"He was a fantastic coach and a smashing player."

The football match will take place in TEK united on 27 April at 4.30pm and there will be a tribute night in the Noggin Inn afterwards.

The statement continues: "If you are reading this and think that you could make it on the day it would be greatly appreciated. It would be great to give Andy the send off he deserves.

"If you could make a donation no matter how big or small would also be greatly appreciated."

Tributes pour in for 'one in a million' mum who tragically died in house fire in Bettystown

Cabinteely FC paid were among the first to pay their respects to a man who was a pillar of the club's youth set-up and had taken charge of the seniors for a spell as interim manager.

They said: "Cabinteely FC is deeply saddened by the passing of Andy Rice. Andy was a coach and mentor in Cabo for many years and is a nephew of our colleague Martin.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Janice, his two children, Lewis and Connie, and to his extended family.

The beloved young Dad and footy coach will be laid to rest in Killiney this morning.
