It’s one of those rare days when the sentence “Greene is right” doesn’t end with the word “accidentally.” Her latest rant about the government shutdown laid bare that the crisis is imposed by the Republicans. Yet, they’re choosing not to solve it.
If Marjorie Taylor Greene has stumbled into clarity, the Trump administration’s dysfunction has clearly gone biblical. The congresswoman who once compared mask mandates to the Holocaust has just exposed the truth about the evil shutdown. In a single post, she proved that the GOP can pass a funding bill without a single Democratic vote. “On the government shutdown, here’s what you’re not being told,” she wrote:
“If Republican Senators wanted to pass the CR and reopen the government they could, by using the nuclear option to override the 60 vote rule and pass the CR with a simple majority vote. We have 53 R Senators.”
In short, they don’t need the left. They need a spine. Yet, MAGA is busy blaming everyone but themselves because Donald Trump frankly does not care. Greene also revealed that the Senate recently used the same tool to “push through a large package” of Trump’s nominees. So, they know how to do it if it serves them. But the well-being of the nation is clearly not in their manifesto.
She then went on to disregard any arguments about the implications of using the nuclear option on partisan relations. “That ship has sailed a long time ago,” she said. “There are no partisan relations. The Georgia rep also revealed that she voted to fund the government and will “not take a paycheck” during the shutdown. Then, with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, she said the quiet part out loud.
The political drama and government shutdown can easily and quickly be resolved by both Democrats and Republicans in the Senate. The Democrats can simply vote YES to fund the government. OR the Republicans can use the nuclear option and fund the government without a single Democrat vote.
Taking it a step further, she called out Speaker Mike Johnson for having “pages of policy ideas” on healthcare, but not one real proposal. Her summary? She’d need to go into a classified room just to find out what her own party stands for (via X). Even if it’s to save her own and get reelected, Greene is surprisingly saying all the right things.
If a staunch MAGA ally like her believes that the shutdown is nothing but a “political game of chicken,” it’s time everyone admits the truth. The irony is almost poetic. Greene, of all people, has become the messenger for basic governance. Probably not because she has changed, but because the bar has fallen that low. The woman once defined by conspiracy theories now sounds like one of the few Republicans still tethered to reality.
Seeing the rare event unfold on X, users couldn’t contain their thoughts. “God help me, I’m agreeing with Marjorie Taylor Greene, who happens to be correct here,” one user wrote. Another amplified “if Trump loses someone like MTG, he’s SERIOUSLY underwater.” And sure enough, the shutdown is entirely choreographed by him to fuel his own jets and Vance’s holidays.
