‘God forbid a dog be able to read his own menu’: Woman takes her family to Texas Roadhouse. Then she spots something unusual a few tables down

A Texas Roadhouse customer inadvertently ignited a discourse on TikTok after revealing an unusual restaurant patron dining near her. Kasey (@thatmamakasey), a stay-at-home mom, earned 3.3 million views on her clip showing a chihuahua casually perusing the menu at the steak restaurant.

‘You can’t make this up’

In the clip, Kasey is having dinner at Texas Roadhouse. She blurs her son’s face as she zooms in on a few tables down from her. Donning miniature round glasses and a serious expression is a chihuahua, held up by its owner as they both look at what appears to be the menu. Kasey evidently found it funny–and incredulous–as her text overlay read, “Can’t make this up.” She added in her caption, “Took my dad and husband to dinner for Father’s Day, and had a CHIHUAHUA with GLASSES sitting 2 tables down from us [laughing emojis.]”

Not everyone found it amusing

While many viewers found it hilarious and joined Kasey in her amusement, several hundred comments were lambasting the dog’s owner.

“Animals do don’t belong in a restaurant…. Period!!!!” one top comment read. Another pointed out the potential harm in having dogs at restaurants.

“While this is cute, my son has a dog allergy so sitting in this booth after them would make him break out badly and then I’d have to analyze the food he ate trying to figure out what he was having a reaction to because no one ever thinks a dog would be in Texas Roadhouse..especially sitting in a booth,” they said.

One user echoed this sentiment, writing, “Cute, but that’s not a service dog and shouldn’t be in the restaurant. they cannot be in the booths or on the table.”

Others, however, thought the dog had every right to be a customer of Texas Roadhouse. “God forbid a dog enjoy some rolls and ribeye,” a viewer joked.

Another user claimed the chihuahua was a celebrity, though the Mary Sue was unable to verify that information.

“HER NAME IS BETSY!!!” they said. “She’s walked in NY fashion week and is a puppy pageant champion!!! LOL.”

While a fashion house did feature canines as part of their NYFW show this year, it is unclear whether a chihuahua named Betsy was part of it.

Are dogs allowed at Texas Roadhouse?

According to BringFido, a pet travel site, Texas Roadhouse allows pets on the patio, but this was confirmed by only two reviewers.  Per the ADA, however, service animals are allowed inside the restaurant. It is unclear whether the chihuahua was a service animal.

As for non-service pets inside, it may vary by location and is best to call ahead to check. Texas Roadhouse currently does not have an official pet policy posted online. However, in a Reddit post uploaded to r/PetFree subreddit, a disgruntled TXRH server said a woman “had her dog ON the table licking off her plate. She was quite literally eating after her dog. My manager dealt with it but my lord it was so disgusting.”

She said her manager, who was petfree, ended up throwing the plate away.
