Gobert shines, Nowitzki struggles as Jazz beat Mavs in OT, 112-107

When you are struggling like the Mavericks have this season, this is what happens.

They had plenty of opportunities Friday night to steal a win against Utah, but when it came time to make a play on one end of the floor or the other, they couldn't.

The Mavericks were stung, 112-107, by the Jazz in overtime as they could not score in the final 2-plus minutes of the bonus period.

Dirk Nowitzki was having an awful night and actually was sitting for more than a quarter before coming back in for the final minute of overtime, when the Mavericks were down 109-107. They couldn't get two shots to fall and when Rudy Gobert, who had a colossal night with 27 points and 25 rebounds, hit one of two free throws for a three-point Jazz lead, the Mavericks got the ball to Nowitzki.

His open 3-pointer from the top was not close and then Gobert clinched it with two more free throws with 10.4 seconds left.

And there could be more bad news.

J.J. Barea went to the locker room in the fourth quarter, having re-injured his left calf that twice has cost him time this season.

Add it up and it was another regrettable night for the Mavericks, who fell to 14-29.

Nowitzki finished with three points on 1-for-13 shooting for the Mavs, who were paced by Harrison Barnes' 19 points.

Gordon Hayward added 26 points for the Jazz.
