Surprised Edinburgh pensioner spots workman 'taking a nap' in her garden

An Edinburgh pensioner was left stunned when a workman strolled into her front garden before laying down on the grass for a quick power nap in a bizarre scene.

The gob-smacked 74-year-old watched as the worker, clad in hi-vis trousers, parked up during the installation of CityFibre cables in Sighthill Gardens and found a quiet space to rest his head.

She snapped a photo of the weary workie on Thursday afternoon during his 20-minute kip before he got up and returned to his colleagues further down the street.

Family members joked about the “amusing” photo, but say they are yet to receive a response from the network provider after launching a complaint last week.

The woman’s son, who asked not to be identified, told Edinburgh Live: “While falling asleep in someone’s front garden isn’t the most professional thing to do, we have found it quite amusing.

“But it was completely bizarre. He must have been on his lunch break as he just got out of the van, strolled into the garden and decided to have a nap.

“I’m guessing he thought no one was home, otherwise he would have done what most other workies do and slept in the van.”

The family contacted CityFibre shortly after the incident, but after supplying evidence of the complaint, they have not heard from the provider.

“My mum is 74, so challenging a man isn’t something she’s likely to do, she just let him sleep,” the woman’s son said.

“He was out for about 20-30 minutes, long enough to not realise she was watching from the living room, then he just sauntered off like nothing had happened.

“A few people we’ve shown the photo to have found it quite funny.”

CityFibre has been contacted for comment.
