Goat heads and drugs dumped on Leeds street in disgusting act of flytipping

Two goat's heads have been carelessly thrown out onto the grass verge of an estate in east Leeds over the weekend.

The "disgusting" pile of rubbish, which also includes prescription drugs and other litter, has even started attracting rats right outside people's homes.

A nearby resident, who does not wish to be named, told LeedsLive that she discovered the mound of litter on St Wilfred's Drive, Harehills, on Friday morning - and the pile of rotting bones are still there three days on.

She said: "On Friday morning I went to collect the bins and it was there along with around 15 other bags of household rubbish and garden refuse.

'When I first saw it I was almost sick'

"There's a goat's heads as well as prescription drugs and loads of other stuff dumped on my street.

"When I first saw it I was almost sick. It was getting a lot of attention from vermin. The crows found them first and were making a meal of them. It's really disgusting.

"I'm just glad that everyone is locked down otherwise there would be kids all over."

Figures released in 2019 showed that Harehills and Gipton is by far and away the worst Leeds ward for flytipping.

More than 20 calls about flytipping in the area were made to Leeds City Council every day over the course of 2017 and 2018. That equates to more than 15,000 incidents in just two years.

The council has since introduced strict new rules in the form of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), with six individuals recently named and shamed for their actions, which cost them a combined total of £7,000.
