Goalkeeper's kick-out goes wide in bizarre clip from GAA club championship game

Just when GAA fans thought that they've saw everything, a bizarre clip has emerged showing a goalkeeper's kick-out go wide in a recent club championship game.

From Stephen Cluxton reimagining the role, to Rory Beggan and Niall Morgan's outfield exploits, there's never been as much focus on the role of a goalkeeper in the modern game.

But one goalkeeper came face to face with the elements recently, leading to what could well be a bizarre first in gaelic football - a goal kick going wide.

The moment came during the Wexford SFC clash between Gusserane O'Rahilly's and Castletown Liam Mellows at Wexford Park as Gusserane 'keeper Micheal Ryan lined up a restart.

But faced with a huge headwind, his kick - which looked to be soaring towards midfield - was caught by a gust and blown well into his 21 metre area.

And as a defender came to retrieve it, he was forced to watch it go out of play as defenders aren't allowed to pick up possession from a kick-out within the area.

And despite the bizarre event leading to a Castletown 45, Gusserane managed to hold on and book a place in the last four of the Wexford SFC.
