Goalkeeper Owain Fon-Williams says Hamilton will be ready for league

Goalkeeper Owain Fon-Williams insists Hamilton will be ready for their Premiership kick-off at Ross County on August 3.

The Welsh shot-stopper, who is also an accomplished artist, was disappointed to only take a point from Saturday’s Betfred Cup opener at home to Queen’s Park, but said that at least it was a clean sheet they can take into their remaining Group F games.

‘Fonners’ said: “There was a clean sheet during the game, and from a defensive point of view that’s the first thing you look for. Anything after that is a bonus, but it wasn't to be.

"However, it's a clean sheet and that's something to build on.

"It was a frustrating game, there weren't a lot of chances, but it tends to be like that in these games.

"There are never any easy games, because in these types of fixtures they never tend to favour us because everything we do on that pitch, the expectation is clearly on us. In hindsight, and in reality, we had only been back together for maybe two and a half weeks or something like that, so it's a little bit false in that sense."

Looking ahead to the future, Owain said: "We have a busy week with Clyde and Partick Thistle, then Airdrie, and we move on from there. We’ll have half an eye on Ross County as well, because they’re all coming thick and fast now.

"That’s what you want though; every single game now leading up towards that is a platform to go forward and that's what we're doing."
