Goalkeeper Brice Samba 'expected to travel to Nottingham Forest' to conclude deal

Nottingham Forest are reportedly on the verge of concluding a deal for goalkeeper Brice Samba from Caen.

Last week, the 25-year-old was linked with a switch to the City Ground, and now it is said he is ready to travel to England to finalise a move.

Get French Football News claim Samba will miss tonight’s Ligue 2 fixture against Lorient for his current club, as he is expected to cross the Channel “imminently”.

Samba has also been linked with Reds boss Sabri Lamouchi’s former team, Rennes, as well as fellow French side Montpellier.

But it is reported: “Samba, who was chased by multiple Ligue 1 clubs, will not play for the Normandy side this evening in their Ligue 2 fixture against Lorient.

“He is expected to travel to England imminently to agree personal terms ahead of a medical and possible signing.”

The shot-stopper impressed for Caen last season, despite their relegation to France’s second tier, making 38 appearances between the posts.

Forest have already brought in Arijanet Muric on loan from Manchester City this summer, with the youngster having endured a tough debut in a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

They also have Costel Pantilimon, Luke Steele and Jordan Smith on their books, though the Reds hope to trim at least one keeper from their squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Smith was the back-up custodian on the bench against the Baggies, with Lamouchi explaining: “It is different. We need to talk about the players in the 18. Pantilimon has a contract with the club and Luke Steele is the same.

“But I need to pick just two goalkeepers in the 18. It was my choice.

“Unfortunately it was not a good choice. But we cannot change for the sake of change. We need to take our time, we need to learn from our mistakes.”
