Welcome to guardian.co.uk's review of the 2011-12 Premier League season. An extraordinary campaign is nearing its end and we would like you to help us choose your favourite goal, the best signing and the best manager, as well as seven other categories.

We have nominated some contenders, but this is just to get the discussion going: we would like your suggestions so that we can compile the best into final polls that you can vote on. The season doesn't finish until Sunday afternoon so the nomination blogs will be up and running later that evening, with the polls open from Monday 14 May. Thanks.

Robin van Persie for Arsenal v Everton (10/12/2011)

There seemed to be no immediate danger when Alex Song lofted the ball forward towards the Dutchman. But as he drifted towards the left, eyes firmly on the ball, one started to sense that we were about to witness something special. And when the ball dropped, he hit it with the most exquisite technique possible, the ball flying past a stranded Tim Howard and into the corner. David Moyes called it "terrific" and Arsène Wenger "special" – but neither word does the strike justice.

Peter Crouch for Stoke City v Manchester City (24/03/2012)

Good feet for a big man? You betcha! This was a wonderful strike, coming against title-chasing Manchester City at the Britannia. Jermaine Pennant's cushioned header was beautifully controlled by Crouch with his right foot, setting himself up for a volley with the same foot, which he hit, without letting the ball bounce, in a perfect arc over Joe Hart and into the far corner.

"I'm confident in my volleying technique, I work on it in training every day," said Crouch, before adding: "Mind you, they don't always work out like that."

Hatem Ben Arfa for Newcastle United v Bolton Wanderers (09/04/2012)

If you are going to score a solo goal, you might as well start it off with a cheeky little backheel flick in your own half (made to look even more effective if your opponent falls over during the move). And that is exactly what Hatem Ben Arfa did against Bolton at St James' Park with the game goalless in the 73rd minute. The French winger picked up a straightforward ball from his defence and then went straight down the middle, skipping past his opponents, until he was faced with Adam Bogdan in the Bolton goal, whom he duly beat with a controlled side-footed effort.

Luis Suárez v Norwich City (29/04/2012)

The Liverpool striker's third goal – to complete a hat-trick – at Carrow Road was almost as good technically as Robin van Persie's strike against Everton. Beating Elliott Ward to Glen Johnson's punt upfield on the halfway line, the Uruguayan hardly looked up before advancing a few steps and sending a 45-yard lob past the back-tracking John Ruddy.

Papiss Cissé for Newcastle United v Chelsea (02/05/2012)

There is something special about goals scored with the outside of the boot. Add an improbable angle – which Cissé certainly had at St James' Park – and you have a certain contender for goal of the season. The Senegalese striker has actually contributed a few outstanding goals this season – finding the top corner against Aston Villa, chipping Michel Vorm of Swansea City and beating Petr Cech with a volley – but none of them rivalled the quality of his second at Stamford Bridge.
