Goal-line fumble dooms Texas against TCU

College football fans have been asking whether Texas is “back” year after year, but for the sixth time in their last seven meetings, the TCU Horned Frogs did some major damage to the Longhorns’ postseason aspirations.

TCU dual-threat quarterback Max Duggan punished the Longhorns on the ground, rushing for 79 yards to compliment his 231 passing yards, and scored a crucial go-ahead touchdown on a 26-yard run with four minutes left in the game. Duggan burst through a huge hole in the Texas defensive line and streaked down the middle of the field untouched into the endzone. The score and successful kick put TCU up by four, forcing Texas to score a touchdown to avoid the upset loss.

Texas QB Sam Ehlinger got the ball back with plenty of time left on the clock, and he swiftly moved the Longhorns down the field. Ehlinger hit running back Keaontay Ingram with a 52-yard pass, and Ingram followed up the next play with a 16-yard run that put Texas on TCU’s 1-yard line.

On first-and-goal, Ehlinger handed the ball off to Ingram – who lost possession of the ball when he dove toward the goal line and tried to extend the ball for the score. TCU took over at their own one, and Taye Barber picked up a vital first down with a 9-yard run on 3rd-and-7 to run down the clock.

Texas never got another chance to score, and Duggan ended the game by taking a safety for TCU to win 33-31.
