Mumbai's wanted criminal Vikrant Deshmukh held in Panaji

PANAJI: In a late night operation, North Goa district police nabbed a notorious criminal from Mumbai, Vikrant Deshmukh alias Vicky, who was wanted for his involvement in 33 cases of dacoity, robbery, extortion, and murder, registered against him in Maharashtra.

"He was a notorious, habitual criminal, who was wanted for the last four years. We had received specific inputs from Navi Mumbai police that he was in Goa and we had laid traps in Panaji accordingly and he was arrested while trying to enter a casino in Panaji," said North Goa SP Shobhit Saksena.

On seeing the police, Deshmukh tried to escape, but was arrested after a short chase.

"We found a live firearm with him with five live rounds. The 34th case against him has been registered now in Goa. He has been in jail for over ten years previously," said the SP.

He said that a team from Navi Mumbai is in Goa to take Deskmukh back to Maharashtra.

"As per preliminary investigations, he was in Goa for leisure purposes. He was staying in Calangute and was in Goa for a day only before his arrest. He is suspected to have come here with an associate. Efforts are on to identify him and apprehend him as well," Saksena said.
