Goa to get Rs 2,000 cr maritime projects, water metro: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

Panaji: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday announced that the government plans to bring in projects worth Rs 2,000 crore to boost Goa's maritime sector and launch a state-of-the-art water metro system.

The Union minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new Captain of Ports building in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

"I would especially like to thank the Goa government. From our ministry's side, we have decided to bring projects worth Rs 2,000 crore to promote the maritime sector in Goa in the coming days," he said.

Sonowal said the government also plans to introduce a water metro system in Goa for the convenience of the people.

He said that the Captain of Ports building is a significant achievement because its design has been thoughtfully inspired by ships and reflects Goa's rich history and maritime legacy.

"Through this initiative, the government has taken a strong step towards preserving and promoting Goa's maritime heritage. This is in line with the vision of our Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), who always says, 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi' (Development as well as Heritage)," he said.
