Goa: Raj Bhavan joins food bank initiative

PANAJI: Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor of Goa, will provide 100 cooked meals once a week to Street Providence’s food bank fridge initiative. These meals will be distributed to homeless people.

As part of a food bank to feed the poor, Street Providence is installing fridges in various places, including police stations. “We wanted to install a fridge in the governor’s palace, where the main gate is. However, due to security reasons, this was not allowed. The Raj Bhavan therefore said it would give freshly cooked meals for 100 homeless people once a week and support our initiative of feeding the homeless,” said Donald Fernandes, founder of the Sangolda-based organisation.

Street Providence is installing fridges at various police stations where all types of extra cooked food will be accepted and stored in a bid to curb hunger and homelessness in that jurisdiction.

Besides 15 police stations, fridges are also being installed at two petrol pumps, two shelter homes and at the organisation’s headquarters at Sangolda.
