VASCO: The pre-monsoon showers accompanied by gusty winds led to leakage in the ceiling of the administrative section of the Mormugao Municipal Council’s building, causing inconvenience to the staff and public.
Renovation and restoration work of the existing Mormugao municipality building worth Rs 9 crore is progressing at snail’s speed. With the pre-monsoon thundershowers for two days, the municipality building’s roofs and ceilings have already given way to rainwater to drip inside the cabins and offices of the municipality.
On Friday morning, the cabins of the municipality’s chief officer and chairperson were flooded with rainwater. The soaked false ceiling is also close to giving way.
THe situation is similar at the Janata Library where a part of the ceiling has already come down with books getting soaked with rainwater. The public counters of birth and death certificate and house tax payment are covered with plastic.
Municipality chairperson Damodar Kaskar said, “The Goa State Urban Development Agency’s contractor had promised to shift us elsewhere and then take up the work but instead of doing so, he directly started the ceiling work which triggered the leakage.”
