Goa: Four held for raping minor in Vasco

MARGAO: Vasco police on Wednesday arrested four persons on charges of kidnapping and raping a 17-year old girl at Vasco. The minor survivor who was rescued from the clutches of her molesters by the Vasco police, was missing since the night of August 11.

The police revealed the names of the accused as: Mukund Rawal, 35, Guruvenkatesh Guruswamy, 30, Kush Jaiswal, 30, and Aftar Hussain, 23, all residents of Vasco.

Vasco PI Kapil Nayak told reporters that the mother of the survivor had filed a missing person’s report with the Vasco police, following which the police had booked an offence against unknown accused under sections 363 of the Indian Penal Code and section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act.

The girl was traced on Tuesday and her statement recorded.

“It was revealed during the investigation that the minor was sexually assaulted by the accused independently and on different occasions by the accused,” Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said.

One of the accused was working as a driver, and he had sexually molested her twice, in August 2021 and then on March 2022. “The other three sexually abused her after she was kidnapped,” Nayak said.

Further investigation is underway.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
