Goa: Exhibition to showcase FN Souza's artistic legacy

PANAJI: To showcase the artistic legacy of renowned modernist Indian artist FN Souza, a seminal exhibition of contemporary art will be held in Goa this weekend.

Writer and critic, Sabitha Satchi will organise 'Posthumous Dialogues with FN Souza' to honour the artist’s bold, brutal and innovative forms in contemporary art, and showcase its significance in a world radically altered by a global pandemic and rising suffering and sectarian violence.

This exhibition, with both established and upcoming artists, will be held on April 23 at Museum of Goa (MoG), Pilerne.

Souza was among the seminal Progressive Artists’ Group of Bombay who were active as a collective in the late 40s, 50s and 60s, along with SH Raza, KH Ara and M F Husain.

He was perhaps one of the first Indian artists to work extensively with acrylic on canvas. His works included expressionist landscapes, radically altered religious iconography, bold female forms, and savagely erotic male and female figures.
