PANAJI: Congress’ preparations for the 2022 state assembly elections have hit high gear, with the a massive show of strength in Cumbharjua constituency where social worker Rajesh Faldesai joined the party along with over a 1,000 supporters. AICC senior election observer for Goa and former union finance minister P Chidambaram visited St Andre constituency where he announced that the block will be reconstituted within a week’s time.
Chidambaram assured the workers that every decision about the election and candidates will be based on the feedback of the active workers in each block.
“We have one goal, one common goal. In 2022, the Congress government must be formed. I pledge, I will devote as much time as possible in Goa to achieve our goal to form the next government in Goa,” said Chidambaram while addressing the workers in St Andre.
AICC Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao, who was also present at St Andre, urged party workers to unite and work for the party irrespective of the candidate. “The St Andre block will be reconstituted in a short while without any delay. Whoever is aspiring for a ticket should not be the block president. The block president should work for whoever is given the ticket,” said Rao.
In the afternoon, the party held a massive meeting to induct Faldesai, who is likely to contest from Cumbharjua constituency in the next assembly elections.
“The blocks will decide about the ticket. Chidambaram and Rao will visit this block, meet with the block workers. Once the reorganisation process is over in a month, then Chidambaram and Rao will sit and prepare a programme and process for candidate selection,” said Chodankar.
Chodankar said that the anti-incumbancy factor and resentment within the BJP cadre will work in favour of the Congress. “Many BJP leaders are meeting me, some openly, some quietly and some are calling me and they are telling me that we must teach BJP a lesson because BJP has forgotten its karyakartas. We welcome all support from hardworking BJP karyakartas who are ready to help us,” said Chodankar.
Opposition leader Digambar Kamat said that if the Congress forms the government in 2022, it will restore the House Building Allowance scheme within eight days.
